Though my best friend lived in Nashville for quite some time and I had a previous employer there for two internships during my college years, it wasn’t really on my radar till I took a post-grad celebratory trip with my fellow student-working mom college bestie. For August in the South, the weather was quite nice. We easily got around Ubering, but shared a rental car to get to and from the airport and city we flew into. We made this a double-date couple trip.
What to eat, visit, and see in Nashville Tennessee in a day:
Hattie B’s for the best damn chicken sandwich
Johnny Cash Museum for museum and music fans
Blag Shag Vintage for funky and unique vintage finds
Pedestrian bridge for best views of the city at sunset
Wings Mural - for the gram
Hattie B’s for the best damn chicken sandwich-
Be prepared to wait in line, so don’t go when you are particularly starving but also as an avid die-hard chick-fill-a fan, this is one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had! My husband had the spicy and I had the regular with the coleslaw. It is family owned Nashville Chicken Joint since 2012. They have seven different heat levels if you’re not sold on the idea of a hot chicken sandwich with sides like-
PIMENTO MAC & CHEESE, CRINKLE-CUT FRIES GF, *BACON CHEDDAR GRITS GF, *SOUTHERN GREENS GF, *BAKED BEANS GF, *RED SKIN POTATO SALAD GF, CREAMY COLE SLAW GF, BLACK EYED PEA SALAD- you can’t go wrong.
Johnny Cash Museum for museum and music fans -
Named the number #1 museum for music in America by USA Today, as someone who wasn’t previously a huge Johnny Cash fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this museum. General admission is around $30 and I recommend getting them online so you don’t have to wait in line.
The Black Shag Vintage store for funky and unique vintage finds-
One of my husbands and I’s favorite pastimes when visiting or traveling to a new area is checking out the local thrift scene, I love looking at clothes and decor from a bygone era, and he loves to sift through to find a new favorite record. The store also boasts celebrity clientele if that’s your thing (Drake, Miley Cyrus, Kasey Musgraves just too name a few).
Pedestrian bridge for best views of the city at sunset
The view of the city from this spot at sunset was truly breathtaking. It is a gorgeous walk and a great place to take a picture and Uber around to downtown Nashville spots. The bridge was formerly named, formerly the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge, but is now The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, connecting downtown Nashville to the residential suburbs of East Nashville. The Whatliftsyou Wings Mural
Last but certainly not least, did you even go to Nashville if you didn’t take a picture of the wings mural for the gram? Yes the iconic Wings mural created by Kelsey Montague was commissioned to paint them in 2016, and has painted various versions in cities all over.
